Our Practice

Krishnachura’s work exists at the intersection of care, culture, evidence, and resistance.

We organize our work through seven interwoven domains.

As a trans feminist space, Krishnachura works from the belief that body, labor, safety, care, sexuality, gender, and dignity are deeply political.

Safety, Care & Collective Protection

We respond when gender minorities face violence, displacement, surveillance, harassment, or erasure, especially during moments of political volatility.

Our approach prioritizes:
Community-based safety planning
Crisis response and referrals
Emergency accompaniment
Digital and physical protection
Psychosocial support

Care is not charity.
Care is infrastructure.

Health, Body & Medical Justice

We work to dismantle harmful healthcare practices that treat non-cis bodies as problems.

Our work includes:
Advocacy for gender-affirming and respectful healthcare
Sensitization of healthcare providers
Challenging medical gatekeeping
Community health navigation
Public health research rooted in lived experience

Health, for us, is a political terrain.

Rights, Law & Policy Imagination

Krishnachura engages law and policy not only as systems of compliance, but as sites of negotiation, imagination, and justice.

We produce:
Policy notes
Legal reflections
Rights literacy tools
Advocacy briefs
Community documentation

Our questions are anthropological:
Who is recognized?
Who is erased?
Who is protected?
Who is punished for existing?

Art, Culture & Narrative Resistance

Art is central to our movement.

Krishnachura uses visual art, photography, textiles, performance, film, archives, and community storytelling as political tools to challenge dominant narratives about gender.

Our work includes:
Art exhibitions and installations
Photography and visual essays
Textile and craft-based storytelling
Film and performance-based documentation
Community archives
Cross-border artistic collaborations

Our work has been exhibited internationally, including an art and photography installation in Kathmandu in collaboration with CREA, where gender, memory, body, and resistance were woven together.

Art, for us, is a method of knowing.

Research, Knowledge & Think Tank Work

Krishnachura operates as a living think tank where research emerges from the ground up.

We produce:
Community-led research
Anthropological reflections
Policy-relevant knowledge
Public health analysis
Movement documentation
Learning papers and briefings

We do not extract stories.
We co-produce knowledge.

Economic Dignity & Social Enterprise

Economic exclusion is structural violence.

Through Krishnachura Fashion, our social enterprise initiative, we create dignified livelihood pathways for gender minorities excluded from formal employment.

Our economic justice work also recognizes that sex work is work, and that THINQ community sex workers deserve safety, dignity, labor rights, and freedom from violence.

Our work includes:
Skills development
Ethical production
Employment pathways
Market access
Community-led entrepreneurship

Economic dignity is protection, autonomy, and survival.

Global Solidarity & Movement Building

Krishnachura is part of global and regional movements for gender justice, bodily autonomy, sex worker rights, and trans liberation.

We believe sex work is work, and we support the rights, safety, dignity, and protection of THINQ community members who are sex workers.

We are connected with:
Global Network of Sex Work Projects
Global Action for Trans Equality
Regional feminist and LBQT networks
Human rights defenders’ protection ecosystems
Diplomatic and civil society allies

We believe no movement survives alone.

Economic Dignity is Protection

Krishnachura Fashion is the social enterprise wing of Krishnachura: A Center for Gender Minorities Rights.

It was created from the belief that gender minorities cannot live safely without economic dignity.

For many transgender, hijra, intersex, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in Bangladesh, formal employment remains inaccessible because of stigma, discrimination, harassment, and social exclusion.

Krishnachura Fashion creates dignified livelihood pathways through tailoring, production, skills development, and ethical enterprise.

What We Build

Skills and training opportunities
Safe and respectful work environments
Ethical production systems
Income pathways for gender minorities
Community-led enterprise models

Why It Matters

Economic power reduces vulnerability.

When gender minorities earn, create, produce, and lead, they are not only surviving. They are building futures.

Krishnachura Fashion is not only a business.
It is a social protection model.
It is a movement economy.
It is dignity stitched into fabric.

The Krishnachura Institute for Non-Cis Life, Knowledge & Liberation

Trans is not only an identity. Trans is a movement.

The Krishnachura Institute is envisioned as Bangladesh’s first learning and knowledge space created by and for non-cis communities.

We reject the idea that knowledge about gender minorities must always be produced by outsiders.

We believe non-cis people are not only beneficiaries.
We are authors of knowledge.
We are creators of culture.
We are builders of future institutions.

What the Institute Will Build

Movement Education
Rights, safety, leadership, health, and strategy training for non-cis individuals.

Trans-Led Research
Research rooted in anthropology, feminism, public health, and lived realities.

Archives and Memory Work
Photography, textiles, oral histories, visual culture, and movement documentation.

Leadership and Care Practice
Training future leaders in collective protection, ethics, sustainability, and accountability.

Regional Solidarity
Connecting Bangladesh’s gender minority movement with South Asia and the Global South.

Our Method

We study the everyday:
The clinic.
The street.
The home.
The workplace.
The shelter.
The prayer.
The dress.
The fear.
The laughter.
Because everyday life is where power hides.
And where resistance begins.

Our Promise

We will not build an institute that imitates the systems that exclude us.

We will build an institute that holds:
Safety without spectacle
Rigor without elitism
Art without tokenism
Research without extraction
Leadership without saviorism

We are not waiting to be included.
We are building.

Our Future

We dream of a Bangladesh where non-cis people do not have to be extraordinary to be safe.

Where our existence is ordinary, respected, and protected.

This Institute is a step toward that future.

We are not waiting to be included.
We are building.

Archive. Body. Resistance. Future.

The Krishnachura Conclave is an artistic-political gathering of non-cis thinkers, artists, activists, researchers, healthcare workers, legal practitioners, policymakers, and movement builders.

It is not a conventional conference.
It is a shared intellectual, emotional, artistic, and strategic space.

Why the Conclave Exists

Gender minorities in Bangladesh are often spoken about, but rarely listened to as knowledge producers.

The Conclave creates a space where non-cis communities can think together, heal together, create together, and strategize together.

It is a space for movement memory and future imagination.
